Dwight Howard and Chris Paul on the New York Knicks?

December 2, 2011 Leave a comment

Ok, quick thought in the midst of all the NBA trade rumors that are flying around. Here are the facts:

– Chris Paul wants to go to New York but they already have Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire, both of whom have large contracts.
– Dwight Howard will most likely be leaving Orlando for a variety of big market options

So, how things are the Knicks will be hard pressed to get either Paul or Howard due to their cap being nearly completely full with Carmelo and Amare. Somewhere someone was suggesting that the Heat trade LeBron James for Howard, one-for-one. That will probably never happen after all the hoopla that was involved around the Heat in the last year and a half, but if it did it would probably be a smart (and ruthless) move by Heat GM Pat Riley. Everyone saw the awkwardness between LeBron and Wade in the Finals last year when one of the two had to take the big shots. Adding Howard to Wade and Bosh on the Heat would make them a well balanced team.

That got me thinking though. Amare and Carmelo both play a very similar position and are both ball stoppers on offense. Howard is a true Center (best in the league) and Paul is the truest of Point Guards (best in the league). Even though the Knicks went through ton of crap in the last two years to get Carmelo and Amare, if they were smart (and extremely ruthless) they should swap their two stars for Paul and Howard.

I would much rather have a great Center and a great Point Guard instead of two good/great Power Forwards.

It would never happen though.

Carmelo Anthony To The New York Knicks: Did He Handle His Departure In The Most Honourable Way?

February 22, 2011 3 comments

After seven months of trade rumours that started in the summer, Carmelo Anthony finally got his wish yesterday and was traded to the New York Knicks. This is not the first act of Superstars taking matters into their own hands, as we saw Lebron James and Chris Bosh hold auction style bidding wars for their services last summer. The results of this Carmelo move are the same, a Superstar picked a city (NY) he wanted to play for and picked another Superstar (Amar’e) that he wanted to play with, but he went about it differently. Lebron James and Chris Bosh both played out their contracts with Toronto and Cleveland, technically doing their old team no injustice by exercising their legal right to sign a contract with another team when their agreement expired. But what Carmelo did was different. He and his people made it clear from before the season started that he wanted to leave Denver and go to NY, and due to the word being out, the tension being high, and the media being rampant around the team, the Nuggets have struggled with issues this season despite having a deep and talented roster. So, which method was more honourable when leaving the team that drafted them seven years ago? I will try to answer that below. Read more…

Tired of Carmelo

**I originally posted this on my other blog, January 18th. Sadly, it is still relevant.

I am tired of hearing about Carmelo Anthony and his trade rumor drama. I really hope he goes somewhere soon because I don’t think this much time should be wasted talking about a player who isn’t worth the hype. That being said, I really hope he doesn’t go to the New York Knicks (his preferred destination), for a few reasons. One, I don’t think Melo is that good, isn’t a defensive guy, and won’t work with Amar’e Stoudemire. Second, everyone talks about NY so much I would rather have them be decent then the joke of a team they have been in the last few years. It is nice to have all the big market teams (NY, LA, Chicago, Boston) in the mix Read more…
