The Edmonton Oilers Are Cursed

January 19, 2012 2 comments

The date was June 5, 2006. The number 8 seed in the West was the cinderella story of the year knocking off the President’s Trophy winners Detroit Red Wings, the San Jose Sharks, and the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on their way to the Stanley Cup Finals to meet the number 2 seed in the east, the Carolina Hurricanes. The Oilers had made it back to the finals for the first time in 16 years. Read more…

Penner Traded to Los Angeles Kings: Analysis

February 28, 2011 Leave a comment

TSN has just announced that Edmonton Oilers F Dustin Penner has been traded to the Los Angeles Kings for prospect D Colten Teubert, a 1st-round pick in 2011, and a conditional 3rd-round pick in 2012 that could bump up to a 2nd-rounder depending on the Kings playoff performance this year.

There are several reasons to like this deal for both sides, and I think it will be looked at as a solid hockey move for both teams, but for different reasons. Read more…

Edmonton Oilers 2011 Trade Deadline, Hemsky And Penner

Right now the Oilers hold two of the biggest trade targets approaching this years trade deadline. Ales Hemsky and Dustin Penner.

Hemsky Breaking Through The San Jose Defense

I have always loved Hemsky for his ability to dangle around any defender he wants, and his ability to make even the crappiest players *cough* Shawn Horcoff *cough* look like actual NHL players. He can bring your team back from any deficit, most famously in game 6 of the ’06 playoffs vs Detroit when he scored 2 goals along with playoff hero Fernando Pisani to come back from 3-0, win the game, and clinch the series. He has never played a full 82 game season with his shortest season coming last year when he missed 60 games. Its no wonder the Oilers were so terrible with their best player only playing 22 games. In those 22 games he had 22 points. Read more…

While watching the 2011 Super Bowl, a hedging idea came to mind. It may not be a  completely original idea, but I can expand on it and add a new flavor. Read more…

Loveable Losers. The Oilers, Cavs, Clippers and Many More

February 1, 2011 4 comments

Every year, in all the four main professional sports in North America, there is one team who is leaps and bounds… behind everyone else. The teams from the last two years are as follows: Hockey – Edmonton Oilers(27-47-8), New Jersey Devils so far(16-30-3). Basketball – New Jersey Nets(12-70), Cleveland Cavaliers so far(8-39). Football – St Louis Rams(1-15), Carolina Panthers(2-16) (the worst of the worst came in 2008 when the Detroit Lions went 0-16). Baseball – Washington Nationals(59-103), Pittsburgh Pirates(57-105).

Being an avid Edmonton Oilers fan it pains me to be writing this article. As things sit right now, the Oilers aren’t the worst team in the league Read more…
