Rob Ryan Hair Cut FAIL

October 14, 2012 Leave a comment

Last year’s Rob is not happy with 2012 Rob’s new hair cut.

Since joining the Dallas Cowboys in January 2011, Rob Ryan has unofficially become most visually available Defensive Coordinator in the NFL. There are a few factors that weigh into this illustrious title that Rob has secured, including his outspoken NFL family lineage of Buddy Ryan and current New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, but I think the biggest factor is his crazy wolf-man hair.

When the color commentators of prime time games in which the Cowboys were getting killed (there were a few last year), the cameras were at least able to focus in on Rob to grab the audience’s attention. Anything to detract from hearing John Gruden slobber over Tony Romo’s footwork in an attempt to convince Jerry Jones that he is the right man for the next Cowboys’ head coaching job.

While watching a few minutes of the Ravens & Cowboys game today I saw Rob’s new hair-do and I had to find out what happened. I guess, according to this article, he cut it for a nonprofit that uses that hair for children who have lost their hair, a noble cause yes, but there are some issues.

1) He looks like a 70-year-old woman.
2) He didn’t cut it short enough for the nonprofit to use properly.

All of this equals FAIL.

Year 1 of FOTB – Top 5 News Events From a Historical Perspective

March 6, 2012 Leave a comment

Wow, time flies. While I regret not being able to contribute more regularly to FOTB while I chase my dreams in grad school, Matt and the rest of the boys have done a good job at ensuring that this place doesn’t completely go to hell. Kudos to my more regular contributing colleagues on that front.

I would love to say that my absence can partially be attributed to my ongoing protest against Stern for failing to acquiesce to demands of having an NBA franchise back in Vancouver (although, a juicy NBA/NHL combo in Seattle with a hedge-fund owner is just starting to gain rumor momentum that might satisfy my northwest basketball needs), but in reality I won’t be my regular active self until this first year of school mercifully runs its course.

However, it wouldn’t be right to let the day pass without at least acknowledging some of the awesome events that happened in our first year that I felt have some sort of long-term historical significance. And yes, I’m refusing to acknowledge the NBA lockout, because it never happened.

2011 NFL Season Non-Bandwagon Underdogs: Tennessee Titans & Minnesota Vikings

September 9, 2011 Leave a comment

With the extreme hype swirling around the return of the NFL, mostly due to a summer of lockouts and the knowledge that the NBA probably isn’t coming back any time soon, the sports media world has been ripe with underdog projections.

One of the great things about the NFL compared to some of the other North American professional sports leagues is that random teams can ‘pop’ from season-to-season, going from relative obscurity one year to winning their division and a playoff berth the next (Kansas City last year and Miami before them). Most NFL followers know this phenomenon is bound to happen again this year and many are making projections as to which team is going to ‘pop’. Read more…
